

Alexandria – Funeral service for, Mr. Wayne Arlin Smith, 81, will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday July 29, 2016, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith passed away Sunday afternoon surrounded by his family.
Mr. Smith is survived by daughters, Kelley Ramsey, of Alpharetta GA., Aleta Short (Gordon) of Birmingham and Shannon Collins, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Robert Short (Caroline), Allison Rogers (Casey), Joshua Collins, Jared Burrage, Caleb Burrage, and Carly Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Owen Collins; Carter Rogers, Amelia Rogers and Emersyn Burrage; brother, John “Dutch” Stanley Smith (Connie) and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie McCormick Smith; parents, Katherine and French Smith; and brother, Steve Smith.
Mr. Smith was a native of Alexandria and spent the last few years in Alpharetta GA. He retired from the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Saratoga, USS Joseph Strauss, USS John W. Thomason, and USS Nathan Hale. He also retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He was a member of Blue Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Smith had a great talent for working with his hands everything from gardening to automotive repair. He will be missed by his family and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Homestead Hospice and the staff of the Benton House of Alpharetta.
