

Alan was born in Aberdeen, SD, on December 20, 1951. His family moved to Crystal, MN, in 1955. He was an athlete in high school, excelling in football and track. He enjoyed aviation his entire life, and was able to fly as a hobby with his dad's private plane. He liked to pheasant hunt with his dad and looked forward to their annual hunting trip. He was skilled at tinkering with tractors, motorcycles, engines and cars - he could fix almost anything.
Alan worked for Metal-Matic in Minneapolis for many years as a steel mill operator. His other hobbies were photography, science, scrapping and auctions, and finding the best deals. He was fond of art and fixing up any bike - his first bike repair included an added engine to create an motorized bicycle! He loved his grandchildren and became a loving grandpa as they grew. He was always present for birthdays and parties, making sure they felt loved and cherished.
He is preceded in passing by his daughter, Leah Marie Wenz; parents, Joyce and Walter Wenz; brother, Brian Wenz; his furever friend, Martha Rae.
Alan is survived by his children, Alyssa (Jay) Calhoun and Lucas (Danielle) Wenz; their mother, Lori Carter; grandchildren, Aren, Adelynn, Amelia, Rowan and Merrick; siblings, Dale, Wayne, Lynae, Cara; stepmother, Wendy Wenz; many wonderful neighbors, and other family members and friends.
