JoAnne was born in Minneapolis, MN to Alexander and Marie (Hall) Semchyshyn. She grew up in Anoka, MN. She graduated from Anoka High School. Jo married Philip Imholte on June 28th, 1952. They continued to stay passionately married for 52 years before Phil passed away. Jo and Phil’s faith was central to their lives and their marriage. They are now reunited with Jesus in heaven.
Jo was a trailblazer for business and professional women as she was Executive Director of Detroit Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce from 1970 to 1974 and active with the DL Jaycee Women, as well a small business owner in Detroit Lakes for several years. She helped start the Holy Rosary Parish Festival & chaired the Festival along with her husband Phil for several years. Jo was also active with the Detroit Lakes Rotary Club all the while raising a large and close-knit family. Demonstrating that women could be both professionally and personally successful.
Jo’s greatest accomplishment is her family. She had great joy in following the successes of her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in these 3 generations as a close and connected family for which she was very proud.
Jo had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed the witty banter of her family. She looked forward to the next social event of family and friends. She was well loved by all who knew her. She and Phil did a lot of traveling with the Telephone Pioneers and Jo was always looking forward to the next adventure. She especially loved traveling abroad and would have traveled the world if she could have. Jo also enjoyed taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on adventures.
