It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Larry Don Bross, who left us peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on September 7, 1942, Larry brought light, laughter, and love to every room he entered. A man full of life and charm, he was best known for his quick wit, playful spirit, and an uncanny ability to turn any gathering into a celebration. Whether he was sharing a clever joke or dealing out a hand of cards, Larry had a way of making people feel at home and usually laugh until they cried.
Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. During his service, he worked as a mechanic and developed a lifelong appreciation for discipline, service, and camaraderie. Stationed in Montana, Larry found a deep connection to the great outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, but more than anything, he loved the stories of the chase.
Larry was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Mary, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. They built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. Together, they raised four children — stepson Steve (Debe) McEnelly, daughters Judith Marie Bross and Jennifer Bross Bard, and son Don (Tina) Bross-along with 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each one a source of deep joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Margaret Bross, and his sister, Delores Cool. He is survived by his brother, David (Geri) Bross, and a wide circle of family, friends, and neighbors who were touched by his kindness, warmth, and generosity.
A beloved figure in the fast-pitch softball community, Larry served as an umpire for over 30 years. Known for his fairness, sharp eye, and signature humor, he was just as famous for donating watermelon and Gatorade to teams after the game — a small but memorable gesture that made him a legend on and off the field.
An avid card player, Larry especially loved teaching his grandchildren how to play games like cribbage and “Screw Your Neighbor.” But you had better watch your cards — because Larry wouldn’t hesitate to sneak a peek and flash that mischievous grin if you let your guard down. Every game with him was filled with laughter, good-natured ribbing, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Above all, Larry lived by the belief that life is meant to be enjoyed and shared. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the games he played, the laughter he inspired, and the love he so freely gave. “If you’re not laughing, you’re not living.”
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Wednesday 6/11/2025 from 3:00-7:00pm at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home: 552 E River Rd, Anoka, MN 55303.
