Sue was born on November 6, 1960, to June Sullivan and Richard Atherton. She graduated from Wayzata High School and went on to earn her Associate’s Degree in Travel and Tourism. She worked as a travel agent for more than a decade, a career that fueled her passion for exploring the world. Her love of travel took her to the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and on many cruises, with countless cherished trips to Disney World.
Sue met her husband, Jim, while they were both working at Perkins, where Jim was a kitchen manager and Sue was a hostess. Sue and Jim were married for nearly 42 years following 7 years of dating. They built a beautiful life together, residing in Ramsey for the last 33 years. They raised three children and were deeply involved in family life, from everyday activities to their children’s many extracurriculars.
At age 50, Sue was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, but she never let it define her. She continued to travel and spend time with her family, facing her illness with unwavering strength, grace, and perseverance. Her courage and determination inspired everyone who knew her.
Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Maxson, and by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her three children, Jim Tully, Megan (Josh) Kieselhorst, and Brian (Santana) Tully; and her four grandchildren, James Blanc-Tully, Sawyer, Asher, and Walker Kieselhorst.
Those who loved Sue will remember her as the personification of Margaritaville, with a love for Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks. She enjoyed skiing, movies, dancing, and time spent with her faithful dog, Ollie, who was always by her side. Above all, Sue was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend—fierce, loving, and wholehearted in everything she did.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests that you consider a donation to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
