Wendell Scott Still, 72, son of the late Central and Elizabeth Still of Danville, Virginia, died at his home in Apopka, Florida on Thursday, April 2, 2015. His death was the result of compounding health complications. He was born in Washington, D. C. on January 14, 1943 at Freedsman Hospital. Wendell grew up in Danville, Virginia where he attended Westmoreland School and John M. Langston High School. Upon graduation he attended North Carolina College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He continued his education at A. & T. State University receiving a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration. His professional career was devoted to helping people of all ages and backgrounds make positive changes in their lives and achieve success. His career in education led him to various school districts in Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida where he taught science, math, and dropout prevention. He also served as principal of Topsail Elementary School in Pender County, North Carolina and Happy Home Middle School in Rockingham County, North Carolina. In addition to education, he was a small business owner in Danville, Virginia. In both careers he extended a helping hand and resources to others for the purpose of propelling individuals to positive outcomes. He adamantly resisted any type of public or private recognition for acts of kindness, caring, and compassion. His expressions were purely genuine and very much from his heart. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, Patrice, of 45 years; two children, Wendy Valverde and Sevin Still of Apopka; one sister, Wanda Hairston of Danville, Virginia; a son-in-law, Lauro Valverde of Apopka; three grandsons, Marco, Franco, and Felix of Apopka; mother-in-law and and sister-in-law, Margaret and Lydia York of Wilmington, Delaware; as well as cousins and friends in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey; and last but not least, little Snag, the new family Yorkie who watched over him during his last days and hours. Wendell was a humoristic person who carried a deep and abiding love and concern for his family. The lasting memory of his love, strength, understanding, perseverance, and wisdom will always be an inspiration to his children, family members, and friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude to all who have extended expressions of sympathy. ************ “Now cracks a noble heart, Good night sweet prince, As flights of angels sing Thee to thy rest.” ************
