"Duckie" passed away on August 31, 2011 in Eureka, California, just a couple of weeks short of her 93rd birthday. Duckie was born in Eureka, California on September 18, 1918, one of 8 children born to Konrad and Barbara Weirup, one of the pioneer families to settle in McKinleyville. She married her sweetheart, Frank, on April 6, 1935. Together they had three children, Richard, Daniel and Patricia. Duckie was active in many organizations, some of which were 4-H and Dows Prairie Grange. She loved to garden, cook, play cribbage and pinochle and had a passion for photography. She and Frank loved to travel to the Smith River area, especially their cabin in Gasquet. She was a loving, strong, opinionated woman who would do anything for anyone. All were welcome at her home. If you left her home hungry, "it was your own damn fault". Duckie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her son, Richard, her parents, Konrad and Barbara Weirup, and all seven of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Marlene), and her daughter, Patricia, her grandchildren Robert Birnie (Nakia), Brandy Taylor (Matt), Correia Edwards (Josh) and Tom Waterhouse, her great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Hunter, Zach, Trevor, Brody, Mariah, Elisabeth and Stella, and numerous other family, all of whom she loved. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Robert Mott and the staff at Pacific Rehabilitation and Wellness Center for their care and compassion and to all family and friends for their love and support. A memorial/remembrance service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Grace Good Shepherd Church, Hiller Road, McKinleyville with her longtime friend and pastor, Javan Reid, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Grace Good Shepherd Church Food Pantry, 1450 Hiller Road, McKinleyville, California.
