Henry Bishop was born July 5, 1918 in Yarnaby, OK. During the Great Depression at the age of 17, Henry worked for the CCC's. He met Dolas McClellan in Phoenix, AZ, the two were married on March 4th, 1939 and recently celebrated their 72nd year anniversary. Henry and Dolas began their life together in Arizona. He was a farmer and they began raising a family. He later worked in Richmond, CA as a welder in the shipyards. In 1945 he was transferred to Germany to serve in the army during World War II. After discharged he moved to Ryer Island, CA where he and his family continued farming and stayed until 1951 when they moved to Blue Lake, California where he worked in the timber industry for 30 years. He was a long time member of the VFW and Blue Lake Dancing Club. He always enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing and growing wonderful gardens. Henry was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed and thought of every day. Henry is survived by Dolas V Bishop, loving wife of seventy two years; daughters Joyce Jacobson-husband Fred Jacobson, and Lorretta Fermo; sons Lonnie Bishop (Jeannie), and Tony Bishop (Shelley); sisters Ellen Patton, Lucille Clark, and Olivia Mitchell; brother Johnny Bishop; grandchildren Teresa Lewis, Tinia McRae, Rosy Justus, Emily Bishop, Brian Bennett, Bret Butler, Wendy Ausgotharp, Venus Smith, & Cara Wigley; great grandchildren-too many to list; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by John Bishop (father), Ethel Bishop (mother), brothers Holly Bishop, E.L. Bishop; sisters Inez Harvey, Cordy Bishop, and Juanita Harrs. Visitation will be held March 15th from 4pm-8pm at Pauls Mortuary in Arcata. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetary in Arcata at 11:00 am March 16. Julie Potter will officiate. A gathering of celebration in honor of Henry Bishop will be held at Blue Lake Fire Hall, March 16th, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers make donations to Hospice of Humboldt.
