Shirley Nadine Williams a long time resident of Bayside, passed from this earth on the morning of March 24, in the company of all seven of her children and a loving granddaughter. She was born to Iris and Clarence Sprenger in Berkeley California on August 6, 1921.
As newlyweds, Shirley and her husband Howell arrived in Humboldt County in 1948 en route to places north and determined, by some miracle of observation through a dirty windshield, that this was the place to raise their family, which began with the birth of twins in 1949.
They bought a house in Bayside in 1950 and lived there together until Howell's death in 2000. Shirley continued to live independently and remained an involved member of her community. She had worked for the Humboldt County court system for nearly two decades and at the time of her death was an active member of Retired Public Employees Association, Legal Secretaries Association, and Clerk of the Sessions for the Bayside Community Presbyterian Church.
She was a loving mother and a generous person with countless talents and the energy to match. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Bayside Community Presbyterian Church, 2023 Old Arcata Road, Bayside, CA.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the cause of your choice.
