

Joseph Clayton Smith Sr., age 85, of Sophia, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011. He was born in High Point on March 15, 1926 to Addison and Lucy Smith. He was a charter member of Covenant United Methodist Church and attended South Plainfield Friends Meeting as long as his health would allow. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of Bush Hill Masonic Lodge #732.
Preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Collins Smith; parents Addison Prather Smith and Lucy Ellen Dunn Smith; daughter Nancy Ellen Webster and great grandchild Tyler Wellington; siblings, Juanita Johnson, Iris Meredith and Daniel Smith. Survivors include his son Joseph Clayton Smith Jr. and his wife Lynna of Sophia; brother, Addison Carthel Smith (A.C) and wife Mary of Ocala, FL; son in law, Wayne Webster of Portsmouth, VA; six grandchildren, Leslie Heird, Cheri Smith, Christina Smith, Matthew Webster, Linda Wellington, Addison “Adam” Webster and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00pm at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Hugh Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery in High Point.
Family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 – 2:00pm at the funeral home.
