Maria Link Hodges of Archdale, NC , at the age of 81, was surrounded by her family when she peacefully passed away on February 6, 2012. Of German descent, she was born to Ernst Karl and Lina Link on June 27, 1930 in Lima, Peru.
Growing up on the coast of Peru, in Paracas, she enjoyed outdoor activities such as sailing, rowing, swimming, tennis, and horseback riding. She developed a great love for art and music, and loved to paint and play the guitar.
In the mid 1950’s she spent 2 years in Pullcapa, Peru, a village near the Amazon River. As a social worker, she worked with a tribe of Indians teaching them proper nutrition. She also taught skills such as weaving and knitting so they could provide their own clothing.
Her next adventure took her to Germany, where she worked in the accounting department of an office for the US 7th Corps Artillery Group. During this time she met Paul Hodges, from North Carolina who was serving in Germany.
Maria then moved to North Carolina where she lived for 52 years and raised her daughters. She devoted her life to her children, making many sacrifices for the benefit of their education and wellbeing.
As an accounting manager, Maria served Hafele of America Co. for over 30 years, providing support and leadership within the many areas of finance and accounting. Maria will be remembered for her dedication and also for her warmth that embodied the spirit of family within Hafele. For Maria, going to Hafele every day was not a job, but a joy.
She is survived by her sister and best friend Carola Link, her daughter Jacqueline Miller, her daughter Monica Peters and husband Alan Peters, her daughter Karin Delaisse; grandchildren Lauren Miller, Sam Delaisse, and Claire Peters – all of High Point.
A memorial service will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 3:00pm. Immediately following the service there will be a ”Celebration of Life” reception in the Asbury Room at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
