Alice Davitt was born in Peoria, IL to Eleanor (Kinney) Hettrick and William H. Barthold who preceded her in death. Her older brother, Rick, also preceded her. She is survived by her loving wife, Janie Swenson, sister-in-law MaryAnn Barthold, brother Charles (Katrina) Hettrick, and brother Dr. Brian (Christine) Hettrick, also niece Valerie (Richard) Weld, nephews Charles Hettrick and Chaz Hettrick, and nieces Celeste and Celina Hettrick and stepchildren Jeffrey (Mary) Davitt, Rhonda Archer and Terry (Lisa) Davitt. She is also survived by a myriad of friends all over the world.
She attended and later worked as a counselor and waterfront director at Girl Scout Camp Tapawingo. She attended Richwoods High School before Title IX, so no female sports were available other than recreation programs. Never the less, she knew how much she loved swimming, basketball, field hockey and volleyball, so she naturally majored in physical education at Illinois State University.
She taught at Maine East High School and coached track and volleyball for a number of years. While teaching full time, Alice completed her Masters Degree in School Administration at Northern Illinois University. Alice then became a Dean of Students offering guidance and an understanding ear to students who came her way. In 1997 she accepted a position in the District 207 administrative offices as the director of State and Federal Grants for the district. She retired in 2003 to pursue her favorite sport, golf and her love of travel.
Alice was avidly involved in women’s golf. She was an active member of the LPGA Amateurs, both locally and nationally, serving on the Tournament Operations Program Committee for years traveling across the country helping set up and implement golf tournaments for women. She also loved to compete in match play tournaments locally and regionally.
