Arlene Marie Swanson, a woman defined by her boundless kindness and "North Side" spirit, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on October 1, 1955, in Evergreen Park, IL, Arlene was the cherished daughter of Donald L. and Arlene A. Knorr (née Murray).
A lifelong Chicago sports devotee, Arlene’s living room was often filled with the sounds of the game. She lived for the 90's Bulls era and was a die-hard Cubs fan who finally saw her patience rewarded during the 2016 World Series win. She cheered on her teams with an infectious, joyful energy; never angry, just genuinely thrilled to be part of the excitement. That same enthusiasm carried over into her favorite time of year: Christmas. Arlene was a holiday traditionalist who believed the season didn’t truly begin until a real Christmas tree was in the house, decorated to perfection.
Above all, Arlene was a woman of "The Hug." She greeted everyone with open arms and a spirit of unending kindness. This empathy led her to be a staple at St. James Catholic Church, where she spent years volunteering for the PADS program and a daily Eucharistic Adoration Coordinator. Whether she was caring for her beloved cat, supporting her children, or celebrating 50 years of marriage with her husband, Bruce, Arlene’s heart was always on display.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Swanson; children, Eric (Barb) Swanson, Matthew (Eddie) Swanson, and Colleen Swanson; siblings, Don (Marcia) Knorr, Tom (Melissa) Knorr, Al (Lena) Knorr, Mary (Bob) Hill, Joe (Julie) Knorr, and Kathy Knorr. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her warmth and her hugs.
