Our beautiful and deeply beloved Beverly Jean Gunnerman Moyer passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Beverly was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and most recently a great-grandmother for the third time, in addition to being a dear friend to many. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Alane, and her son Michael Craig (and his wife Caroline). Her cherished grandchildren are Angel Renee Moody, Ashlee Jean Liles, Brian Michael Hagen (and his fiance Angie Skelton), Chloe Estelle Moyer, and Augustus Michael Moyer. Beverly also leaves behind three adored great-grandchildren: Colin Jay Terrell, Trenton Ray Terrell, and Bodie Michael Hagen. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Born in Piqua, Ohio, Beverly was the daughter of Margaret “Peg” Fry Gunnerman and William Gunnerman. She attended Piqua City Schools, where she became an accomplished trumpet player, marching with the band, and we also found pictures of her with her high school volleyball team! Bev’s gentle spirit, endless patience, and deep kindness touched everyone she met. Her humor, empathy, and compassion were at the heart of who she was, and her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. Until her final day, she lit up whenever she saw her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren—shouting with joy, “My babies, my babies!”
Beverly was preceded in death by her first husband, James Liles, father of the late Dr. Steven R. Liles, and later by her beloved husband of 37 years, David Michael Moyer, with whom she shared four children—Teresa, Michael, the late Christopher Joseph and the late baby Karen Sue. She was also preceded in passing by her parents William and Margaret Gunnerman, her brothers Robert and William Gunnerman, and her son Steven Ray. Beverly’s love for her children was absolute, and her belief in them unwavering.
Throughout her life, Beverly found many ways to share her warmth and kindness. She volunteered with Hospice, and was known for donning festive costumes to bring joy while driving a school bus. She also spent 12 years at Motorola Telecommunications Incorporated, where she worked as a secretary and brightened everyone’s days with her radiant smile and pleasant conversations.
Beverly’s life was filled with joy, friendship, and adventure. She loved cruises, euchre, casinos, the Florida sun, and spent time gathering with her friends in the “Do Nothing Club”, and as a member of the Elks club. She had a special passion for counted cross-stitch, her women’s golf league, and found renewed happiness later in life with her “knight in shining armor,” Mr. Albert “Big Al” Cooper of Omaha who she met during her years in Punta Gorda, Florida. While in the Sunshine State, she spent many hours doing pool yoga and teaching all her grandchildren how to swim! She kept the swim parties going even when she moved back North to Glenview, IL, where she also frequented her new apartment complex’s shared book-exchange, maintaining her love of reading throughout her life.
In the end, we all had our special name for her. Some called her Mom & Mama and some called her Gram and Grandma Moyer… By whatever name we think of her, we are going to miss her, her wonderful cooking (the beef stew and the carrot cake are family favorites!), her corny holiday decorations, and the delight she brought to us every day - we will love you and miss you forever!
A celebration of Beverly’s life and a short service will be held on Saturday, October 25th, from 2:00–4:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. The funeral service will start at 3:30 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society at Cancer.org.
