Bruce George Smith

Bruce George Smith, 88, was born on November 10, 1937 in Oak Park, IL to the late George and Florence (Fachet) Smith and passed away on April 12, 2026. Bruce was the loving father to Michael (Amy) Smith, Suzi Smith, and David (Kim) Smith and beloved grandfather to Amanda and Isabella Smith. The Smith family would like to extend a warm thank you to the staff at Auberge Memory Care and Suncrest Hospice for providing him with comfort and care.

Bruce obtained a bachelor’s degree in science from North Park College and then worked for over 30 years as a chemist for GD Searle which was eventually bought by Pfizer. He was department head for research and development and worked on projects that included Equal sweetener and Icy Hot. He retired in the late 1990’s.

During his life he enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, photography, poetry, gardening, cooking, working out, holidays, and travelling to his favorite destination - Las Vegas. Bruce loved playing the one-armed bandit.

He had a very analytical mind and enjoyed solving problems. He was a kind son, father, grandfather and enjoyed gatherings with the family.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
