

After graduating from Austin High School, Bruce attended the University of Illinois but left school and served in the United States Army for two years. He then completed his Bachelors of Business Administration at Northwestern University and proceeded to earn his MBA at the University of Chicago. Bruce went on to a career at Standard Oil where he worked for 33 years. Never one to be idle, he continued to work in his retirement for the United Way and for Palatine Hills Golf Club.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 57 years, Julie Stegman (née Carlin), children Amy (Andrew) Trimble, Andrew (Katherine) Stegman, Jill (Jason) Sphar, and grandchildren Andrew Trimble (19), Ryan Stegman (17), Lindsay Trimble (16), Nora Sphar (13), and Helena Sphar (10).
He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Matthew Stegman, and brother, William Stegman.
Bruce will be remembered best for his wonderful sense of humor and the joy he found in life. He was a dedicated musician, avid golfer, bicyclist, bowler, reader, crossword solver, and bridge enthusiast. Above all else, he found no greater pleasure than gathering with his family.
Visitation will be at Glueckert Funeral Home Thurs., Dec. 21 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be at St. Simon's Episcopal Church (717 W Kirchhoff Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60005) Fri., Dec. 22 at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park (900 N. Wolf Rd. Northlake, IL 60164).
