

Cynthia Athans was born on December 31, 1935, in Watertown, NY to Ansel Monroe and Mildred Kilburn (nee Burdick). She died on March 21, 2023 at Sunrise of Buffalo Grove surrounded by her loving family.
Cynthia was an Art Teacher for Schaumburg School District 54, and taught at Nathan Hale Elementary School, Jane Addams Junior High School, and Robert Frost Junior High School. She retired in 1994. After retiring from teaching she started her own business making wedding gowns, which she did for 20 years.
Her interests and hobbies included traveling with her friends to Europe, South America, and Hawaii. She loved entertaining in her home, and was famous for her summer pool parties.
Cynthia is survived by her children Dean (Melinda) Athans, Christina (Patrick) Moriarty, Philip (Deanne) Athans and Peter (Beatrix) Athans; her grandchildren Alyse Athans, Thea Athans, Alexandra Athans, George Athans, Patrick Moriarty, Megan Moriarty, Sean Moriarty and Aaron Athans; she is also survived by her nephews and niece: James and Eugenia Carris; and Dean, Steve, John, and Rob Athans.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years George Athans; her grandson Ryan Moriarty, as well as her parents.
Memorial Visitation Monday, March 27, 2023 from 2:30pm until the time of the Celebration Of Life at 4:00pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
