David Arthur Levene was born on October 12, 1948 to Maxine and Arthur Levene and grew up in Galesburg, IL with his older sister Donna (Ron) Farber. Marrying Lore Mokate in 1971, they created a beautiful family with two children Erik (Julie) and Dana (James) and five grandchildren: Sarah, John, Jimmy, Ian and Alyssa.
Dave was a creator. As a career, he was an architect creating custom homes for families to enjoy. He created art, making beautiful oil paintings and taking photographs of nature scenes and portraits that captured people’s spirits. As a chef, he loved creating a unique menu for the annual Christmas party. He created books, writing four books for friends and family to enjoy. He created memories, traveling around both Europe and the U.S., especially enjoying the national parks. Dave created community participating in the Jaycees as a young man, also serving as a baseball coach and later an umpire for the youth baseball league. He was an active member of St. Raymond’s Church in the choir, RCIA and CFM.
After experiencing a massive stroke eight years ago, Dave’s life changed dramatically. But his spirit was strong and he was able to spend those bonus years with family and friends, while watching his grandchildren grow up.
Most of all Dave created love, he created laughter, and he created joy. His smile was contagious and brought happiness to those around him. This is how he will be remembered by all of his family including his nieces and nephews, as well as brothers- and sisters-in law.
Dave’s last words really captured his spirit: “I’m the luckiest man on earth.”
