David Spencer was born on September 12, 1950, in Newton, Iowa, to Robert and Helen (nee Gustavison) Spencer. He died Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Lutheran General Hospital surrounded by his family.
David was a graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and he received his MBA from the University of Iowa. David enjoyed photography, tennis, fishing and gardening. He was also a skilled internet researcher, whether it pertained to family genealogy or finding the best deal on anything you could want or need. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes as well the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls. He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, and was loved by all.
David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leslie (nee Armstrong); children, Christine (Erik) Johns, Laura (Brian) Emerick, and Kathleen (fiancé Mitchel Mcfarland) Spencer; grandchildren, Elyse Emerick, Caitlin Emerick, and Emilia Johns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Beverly Spencer.
Visitation will be Monday, January 7, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL, 60004. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 11, at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa.
