

Dorothy M. Gleason, 91 of Arlington Heights, formerly of Skokie was born December 14, 1922 in Chicago to the late Aloysius and Mary Bott and passed away October 16, 2014. Dorothy married the love of her life, John P. Gleason, who was a Chicago firefighter, gave birth to a son and was widowed in the span of just three years. She never remarried, choosing to devote her love and talents to raising her son and sharing her gift for teaching with thousands of children for more than 60 years. She taught at St. Lambert School in Skokie for many years, worked in school and public libraries, and taught her Catholic faith to many developmentally challenged children at St. James Parish in Arlington Heights. In her later years she was a volunteer teacher in the Arlington Heights Public Library adult literacy program. She was devoted to her family and faith, lived a rich full life and died peacefully. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John P. Gleason; loving mother of John P. (Mary Lou) Gleason II; cherished grandmother of Laura (Brian Anderson) Gleason and J.P. Gleason; great-grandmother of Clara Anderson and dear sister of Mary Anne (late William) Kiesel, George (Cherie) Bott and the late Charlotte (late Vic) Berns. Visitation will be Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 2-8PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said Monday, October 20 at 11:15 AM at the funeral home and proceed to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights for funeral mass at 12 noon.
