Allan was born in Chicago on May 2, 1937, to the late Josef and Sarah Belmont. He was the younger of two children and he and his sister June grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. He graduated from Senn High School and subsequently enrolled at the University of Illinois where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He then attended Chicago Medical School, graduating in 1963. After graduation he spent his internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago where he met his wife of 59 years, Frances. Afterwards he served as a medical officer in the United States Army which had him and Frances living in Korea and Colorado Springs before returning to the Chicago area.
He spent the rest of his career tirelessly taking care of patients and touching thousands of lives in a busy internal medicine practice at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. It is there that he and Frances raised their three children, David (Patty) Belmont, Lesley (Neil) Glaze, and Daniel (Moja) Belmont.
Afterwards he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement where he and Frances split time between Huntley, Illinois and Surprise, Arizona, where he loved to golf and travel.
He was devoted to his patients and spent countless hours caring for them both in his office and in the hospital. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing tennis and golf, and traveling. He had a dry sense of humor and a warm, caring heart.
He will be missed dearly by his surviving wife, Frances, his children, and his grandchildren Kathryn, Melissa, Adam, Megan, Sarah, Caroline, Jack, Finnegan and William.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Entombment will be private.
