Fione Ellouise Hergenreder, 97, passed away on Monday, July 17th, 2023 at The Moorings in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was born on August 30, 1925 in Carlisle, PA to John William and Lillian Irene (Walker) Feeser.
Fione married Paul Hergenreder on July 11, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois. They bought a small house in Arlington Heights, Illinois where they raised their family and lived for the rest of their lives. Although some of us are scattered around the country, this small house was always “Home” to all of us.
Fione was a “stay at home” Mom and worked tirelessly to keep an immaculate house. Anyone could eat off of the floor on any given day. She is well known for her cooking and baking skills. There was not a family meal that did not include her special mashed potatoes. Holiday meals always included three or four different kinds of pies for dessert – usually served with ice cream. She claimed that her brownies came from a box, however, no one has been able to re-create them, so it must have been her loving touch that made them so special. Her famous Molasses Cookies will forever be a tradition at the holidays.
She loved to draw and sketch and often made her own greeting cards for special family and friends. She was a collector of angels, wearing one on a necklace and a pin on her lapel. She was never without one.
In her later years, reading kept her occupied. Romance novels, especially those about cowboys, were her favorites. She would wait with great anticipation for her “book delivery” from Amazon.
We are left with her special expressions that will carry on: Geea-Meea-Beea, Uff-Lee-Lee-Lee, Wooly Worm, Great Jehoshaphats, Love you up to the sky, down to the ocean, whole in the more world.
Fione is survived by her children Jan (Bill Gruenes) Braun, Beth (Bob) Taraba & Pam (Roger) Schultz; grandchildren, Steve (Nicki) Gruenes, Kristi, Eric and Sarah Taraba, Megan & Matthew “MJ” (Danielle) Schultz, great grandchildren, Savannah, Addy, Rob and Bill; great-great grandchildren Kinsley, Miles, Quinn, Brynlee, and her sister Jeanette Tennant. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandchildren, Billy, Danny, Amanda, Jessica, and Michael.
A visitation will be held from 10 am – 11:30 am on Thursday, July 20th, 2023 at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Funeral Mass to follow at noon at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 434 West Park Street, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60005. Interment will be private at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
