Genevieve Izycki, 97 of Arlington Heights was born November 22, 1927 in Krzemieniec, Sienkewicze, Wolyn, Poland to the late Francziszek Glab and Maria Pociecha. She passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2024.
Upon returning to France after escaping to Africa from Poland during the war, Genevieve married and was the devoted wife of the late Stefan Izycki in Mulhouse, France on July 30, 1949. She was the loving mother of and is terribly missed by Ala (Donald) Kendal, Diane (Jack) O’Sullivan; cherished grandmother of and lovingly remembered as Busia by Amy (Daniel) Ober, and Kelly and Bradley O’Sullivan. Genevieve was the most caring, wonderful and generous Great-grandmother of Delaney and Braden Ober, and Avery O’Sullivan.
After arriving to the United States in 1959, Genevieve learned English and made many friends checking coats at The Palmer House Hotel and The Drake Hotel, among others. Genevieve eventually retired from Marshall Fields on State Street after many years as a seamstress in Better Dresses on the 2nd floor. Our family still enjoys the tradition of visiting the State Street store at Christmastime and dining at the Walnut Room together. Genevieve’s honesty and work ethic are admired and respected by friends and family alike.
In her retirement Genevieve enjoyed her Aquatics classes at the NWCH Wellness Center and the many friendships she made as a member of that connected community. She was also a dear friend to her many caring neighbors including Rose and Cynthia. Genevieve’s door was always open for warm company, good conversation, and delicious food.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her younger brother, Ted Glab of Victoria, Australia.
Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Wayside Church at 434 W. Park Street, Arlington Heights at 10am on Monday, December 2, 2024 followed by the Funeral Mass at 11am. Interment will take place at 12:45pm at All Saints Cemetery on River Road in Des Plaines.
