George H. Epiney

George H. Epiney was born February 26, 1931 on the south side of Chicago to Henry and Florence (nee Harkness) Epiney. George wed Dianna (nee Zyrkowski) on May 4th, 1957; they were happily married for 48 years before her passing in 2005. He passed away on February 29, 2024 at Waverly Inn in Arlington Heights.

George was the loving father of Kimberly Eyerly, Julie (Don) Oehlert and Adam (late Donna) Epiney; cherished grandfather of the late Ryan (1996), Jesse (Kolleen), Sarah (Michael), Amanda (Alan), Sam (Carrie), Rachel (Andrew), Derek, Roxann (Matthew), and Lucas; much loved great grandfather of Nora, Mae, Grace, Ryan, Evelyn, Colin, and Penelope.

George attended the Installment Credit School of Banking at the University of Virginia Charlottesville. He began working for LaSalle National Bank in 1952, retrieving bank assets. Throughout his successful career, George worked his way up to Senior Vice President in charge of the Retail Banking Division, until his retirement in December of 1990. George was instrumental in bringing the first ATM machines to Chicago, he also spearheaded the “Loop Liars Club” which included senior staff of the seven prominent banks in the city. George was the President of the Installment Bankers Association of Chicago Area (IBACA) from 1973 – 1974. He was active in the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago Inc. a program that assisted underprivileged people attain home ownership. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan; his greatest enjoyment was spending summers with his family at his cabin in Herbster, WI.

Memorial visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, from 10:00 am until the time of memorial service at 12:00 Noon. Interment private.
