Beloved husband of Theresa (nee Markiewicz) Durkee; loving father to Timothy (Cheri) Durkee, Susan Durkee, Diana (Randy) Nys and Ruth (Michael) Brick; cherished grandfather to Matthew, Megan, Erik, Kelly and Nicole; dear brother of the late Jack (late Helen) Durkee, Claire (late Vincent) Kyriak, late Madeleine (late Carl) Fava and late Richard (Mary) Durkee fond brother in law to Gloria (late David) Bowski and Mary Ann (late Bruce) Fleck, Harold (Chris) Markiewicz and Frank (Agnes) Markiewicz and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.James was born in Chicago and was a life-long resident of the Chicago area." He served his country in the U.S. Army in Army Intelligence. After the Army and attending the University of Maryland for a short period of time, he returned to Chicago and began a career in management information services/information technology and was recognized nationally as a leading innovator in then, this new field, eventually rising to the level of Vice President at Carson, Pirie, Scott Co./Bergners." He was a graduate of the Wharton School of Business and was selected to be apart of the team that developed the first Information Systems curriculum for Northwestern University, mentoring the first students enrolled in the program.Following retirement, his second career for many years, was in real estate and was dedicated to providing housing and other opportunities to the underserved around him." He touched many lives." He never forgot God's graciousness to him and his family, nor the background from which he came. He enriched the lives of anyone who knew him, and inspired others to become better.He was an exceptionally intelligent, skilled and moral man who recognized the importance of walking with God. He was witty and honest, and his name was synonymous with integrity."
