Jim and I were best friends as kids. I hadn’t spoken with him in decades however I have thought of him over the years. As kids I always joked with him about being 2 days older born in the same place. I wish I could have talked to him.

I have a long list of memories with Jimmy and am so saddened to hear of his passing. From High School & high school parties, he was always so much fun to be around and so, so funny! We've kept in touch through the magic of Facebook-he would always send funny messages that made me smile. You could see how much he adored his family, that was so apparent. He will missed and may he rest in eternal peace.

Dear Julie, Jaime, Johnathan, Jeffery, Barb, Sherrill, Kathleen, Carl, Jacqui, and Megan,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community. Know that our hearts go out to you as you begin your journey of grief.  We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate your husband, your father, your brother, and the love you shared.

As I think abut this man who had a “heart as big as the sun,’  was “accomplished” in his profession, and was “devoted to his children,” I am reminded of a reading adapted from the Book of Sirach.

“Let us praise an illustrious man,
	faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
	he has left us his good name, and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of him….
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.”

May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge your husband, your father your brother  lives on in your goodness, give you peace and hope!

I met Jim Hofer in Jr High School I don’t remember having any classes with him

We played wicked games of “Tag” that looked more like foot chase scenes from an action movie. The games would last days. 

One day Jim invited me to go home to his house for lunch - I said yes not knowing what to expect. I was an awkward kid that often seemed to get in trouble with out even thinking.  

And Jim was a cool kid, I wondered why and what we would walk home at lunch to do at his house? 

So turns out Jim went home for lunch to feed his little sister. 

Jim and I ran in different circles but he always had my back - and more than once put himself in harms way to keep me from getting my ass kicked. 

When my mom died he was there, When my dad died he was there, and when my sister died he was there. 

He came sat with me - each time he just showed up and said “what do you need me to do”. 

Jim liked to throw parties. 

I never went to any of them after high school - accept in 2011 Jim had a party that fell on my actual birth date - I told him I would be there. 

Dude had a cake all decorated an shit for me. 

James Hofer - It has been an my privilege to have you as a friend.

Jimmy a boy hood friend of mine shared many memories fishing, bike rides hockey at the reservoir and just being boys I loved his laugh and especially the Fourth of July I will cherish those memories. Joseph M. Bugos.
