

James L. McGrath 84, of Arlington Heights was born on November 22, 1939 to the late James and late Mary McGrath and passed away September 10, 2024. James was the beloved husband of Linda (nee Faber) McGrath; loving father of Christopher McGrath and Carol (Carl) Mysza; devoted grandpa of Matthew, Adam and Derek Mysza; Fond brother of Bill "Bumps" McGrath and the late Carol Benjamin; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from St. Mel's high school in 1957 and went on to receive his Bachelor's of Science from Loyola University in 1961. Jim served in the United States Army for three years and spent part of that time in Germany.
Jim started his career in human resources with the Chicago Tribune where he met the love of his life, Linda. Jim left the Tribune to work at a start up called Waste Management and helped grow that company both nationally and internationally. Jim spent the majority of his career with Waste Management until he retired at the age of 58.
Jim was a resident of Arlington Heights for 55 years. Jim was an avid runner his whole life and enjoyed both playing and watching most all sports. He stayed active in the community in his retirement through volunteering for several organizations and both playing and coaching in the men's senior softball league.
There was nothing more important in life to Jim than his family and his faith. He was a member of St. James parish in Arlington Heights for 50 years. He was married to Linda for 57 years and was the perfect example of a loving and devoted husband. Their marriage was a success story.
Jim was a loving father who provided Chris and Carol with an idyllic upbringing. He was their rock and gave them the foundation necessary to succeed in life. He was a phenomenal father and Chris and Carol know just how blessed they are to have been his children. They are forever grateful for his love.
His three grandchildren Matthew, Adam and Derek were his absolute pride and joy. He supported and guided them in everything they did. He was a devoted, "bragging" grandpa rooting them along every step of the way.
He remained close to his brother and sister his entire life and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.
