Of Arlington Heights
James Francis Wolter was born on December 10, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI to Serenus and Rosemary (nee Keelyn) Wolter. He passed away peacefully at Symphony in Buffalo Grove, on March 20, 2023, the first day of Spring, and his first in Eternal Life.
James was an active parishioner at churches in Libertyville and Naperville, IL. He worked for many years at Home Depot in Naperville, during his “retirement” time, and was affectionately referred to as “the answer man” on all things related to home repair and other topics. While degrees from Marquette did not prepare him for this role, countless calls from his children “the car is making a weird sound…” most definitely did.
His interests and hobbies included cheering on the Green Bay Packers to FOUR Super Bowl Championships; gardening (oh the joys and frustrations of the tomato plants!), fishing, sunshine, and celebrating holidays with family. He will be remembered for his strong Faith and the joy he found in life. Nothing brought him more happiness than updates on his grandchildren; how his eyes would light up at the sight of them! Most recently, he delighted in recounting tales of his childhood dog, Frosty, and would rest peacefully listening to Annie’s Song on repeat. Always and above all, he wanted what was best for his family. He will forever be in their hearts.
James is survived by his spouse of almost 65 years Jacqueline Wolter (nee Abel); his children Cindy (Roger) Franz, Sue (Dave) Rizzi, Kathy (Tom) Olcese, Jim (Lorna) Wolter and Jennifer (Jeff) Haidu; his grandchildren Tristan (Johanna) Franz, Andrew Rizzi, Jack Rizzi, Megan Wolter, Sarah Wolter and Natalie Haidu; his sister Maryann (David) Paulus and his brother Dan (Liz) Wolter; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Tom (Mary Ann) Wolter and John Wolter.
We are forever walking
In the dappled green
Of the forest preserve
in Palatine
We will always have this, you and I,
Until and even after we should die
