Jeffrey John Sand was born on January 23, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Frances (nee Kowalski) Sand. He died Thursday, October 22, 2020, after a brief, courageous battle with leukemia.
Jeff was in sales within the trucking industry which included Roadway Express, American Freightways, and N&M Transfer. In his second career, he was a driver for Warren Township High School. He served in the Navy on USS BELKNAP DLG-26 during the Vietnam War (1966-1970). He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with three bronze stars. He was a member of Libertyville VFW Post #8741 and frequently volunteered at the National Museum of the American Sailor at Great Lakes Naval Base. Jeffrey loved all aspects of sailing and was happiest on the water. He enjoyed golf, was an avid fan of Notre Dame, and a student of military history.
Jeffrey is survived by his daughters, Amy K. Sand and Meghan E. (Sean) Landry; his grandchildren, Jillian G., Lauren E., and Kellen J. Landry; his siblings, William Sand, Susan Wolford, Thomas (Brenda) Sand, and Deborah Sand; and his niece and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation from 2:00 pm until time of private Memorial Service at 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd. Face masks are required, social distancing and capacity limits are in effect. Guests should prepare to wait outside for entry. We understand everyone has a different comfort level during this pandemic, but we will be accepting of hugs.
