The first time I met John was on the field officiating a spirited girls football game at Niles North HS - I was still learning, and he showed me the way. We also worked other football and softball games together, and I ALWAYS looked forward to being with him on the field, trying to model myself after him as a sports official….calm, knowledgeable, and respectful to everyone involved. 
Just before softball season began in March this year, he sent me a note “out of the blue” 
asking if I needed any help getting ready for the season. And a couple weeks later, we exchanged St Patrick’s Day well wishes. 
I’m shocked to learn just yesterday about his passing. He was such a great guy in my life. I’ll be keeping the McG clan in my prayers. God bless you, and may you find comfort and strength with memories of John.

My sympathies to John’s family.  He was a remarkable man, husband, father and friend.

We grew up together in Mt Prospect,  we were able to renew our childhood friendships in recent years, reliving our childhood antics. 

And if you passed a high school gym, you might hear that laugh as he supported all the local kids sports by wearing a ref’s jersey and letting the kids have fun. As he said to us one day,  if I didn’t ref, the kids couldn’t play.  So I ref for them.

The world was a better place with John (Johnny) in our lives.  He will be missed!

My sympathies to all of you on John’s passing. I grew up with the McGuinniss’ so knew him as Johnny. He was kind and funny. When I think of him I think of his laugh and how nice he was to us younger kids in the neighborhood (only a few years.) From what I’ve read it sounds like he hadn’t changed a bit. John was a good man – Funny, kind, generous and strong. He was not just my brother-in-law, he was my partner-in-crime for over 50 years. He taught me so much and enriched my life in more ways that I can count. To me, John was the brother I never had. 

He loved his family - Sharing holiday traditions with Katy, Maddy, Johnny & Izzy, vacations at McPartland’s and in Hawaii, celebrating family milestones with amazing backyard parties were all deeply important to him.
He loved getting his friends together - Epiphany parties, Sox games, Wonder Inn, March Madness at Greek Isles, Morrison’s outings, movie nights around his fire pit. Maintaining his friendships with buddies from Niles and Northern was essential. 
He loved the outdoors: Golf, fishing in his beloved Lund in Boundary Waters and Ontario. Pheasant hunting at Chain-O-Lakes and Iowa. He taught me gun safety and took me hunting for my first time ever.  
John loved to cook – Whether walleye and onion rings on fishing trips, Turducken, Juila’s spaetzle at Thanksgiving, or special requests for Izzy, he was happiest at the stove, making meals to share with his family and friends.
He loved to laugh and make you laugh – he was a great story-teller who could make you do a spit-take at the punch line.  
Thank you for all the great memories, my friend and brother. We were blessed to have you in our lives. Rest well.

I remember John coming  to the office as a patient and in the summertime he would bring Cricket in his scooter in his basket! We would always be so excited to see him! When it got colder outside he would bring him in and we gladly watched Cricket as he saw the doctor.

John has been such a kind and caring neighbor since we moved into the neighborhood almost 13 years ago. He always greeted us with a smile and genuine interest, making us feel welcome and at home from the very beginning. We will miss seeing him and Pawdrick out for their morning walks as well as having a chat around the DeRosas' fire. His presence brought warmth and friendship to our community, and it won’t be the same without him. Sending all of you love and wishing you moments of peace during this difficult time.

So many fond memories of growing up with John. From playing wiffle ball, hockey, and basketball in our driveway, to bumper pool in his basement, and driving around in his white Datsun 240Z, and always finding our way to Peep’s for hotdogs on weekend nights. So glad that a few of us childhood friends got together last summer a couple of times after about fifty years of separation. Rest in peace my friend.

I haven’t seen John since graduation from Niles College.  He looked totally different with his dark hair, mustachio, and curly hair.  However, we all have looks that have changed.  I will remember his great sense of humor and his friendliness.  I am sorry he is gone .  My sympathy to his wife and family.  All are in my prayers. Sincerely, William Fischer.

Losing John at such an young age is a huge loss; I still cannot believe he is gone!  John lived across the street from me, so I would see he and his wonderful dog daily.  John would tell me how fastidious I am with my grass and flowers....and he is correct!  Sometimes I would work after the sun would set, and he would tease me that I needed a miners hat with an attached light!  I will surely miss John and our fellow bantering.  He was a very nice person!!  He was also a White Sox fan.  As we get older, I don't have as many friends that I use to.  Without John, I now have one less friend!!  Sincerely,  Bill Blocki

My condolence to John’s  family he was a very good official. He officiated my games at Providence St. Mels where I attended and as a head coach, He was always fair and was easy to communicate with. Rest in peace, John
