John O’Grady, 83, a long-time resident of Arlington Heights, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. He was born March 12, 1942, to the late Thomas and late Laura O’Grady. John was the beloved husband of Dolores (nee Brausch) O’Grady; loving father of Shawn (Maria) O’Grady and Christine O’Grady; dear brother of the late Thomas O’Grady.
John proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, a reflection of his strong sense of duty and commitment to others. After his military service, he spent many years working in the phone industry, where he was respected for his reliability, skill, and strong work ethic.
Even after retirement, John remained happiest when he was busy fixing things. He went on to work at the U.S. Postal Processing and Distribution Center, where his hands-on abilities and problem-solving nature were a perfect fit.
John’s passions were many and deeply enjoyed. He loved trains, woodworking, wood carving, and reading history books. His enthusiasm for woodworking extended beyond his own projects; he generously volunteered his expertise at the senior center, sharing both his skills and his time with others.
Above all, John’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was married to his wife, Dolores, for 59 wonderful years, sharing a life built on love, loyalty, and deep companionship. He was also immensely proud of their two children, Shawn and Christine, who brought him endless joy and meaning.
John will be remembered for his steady presence, patience, kindness, and the love he shared so freely with his family and community. His legacy of service, generosity, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.
