I worked with John Pelican for many years on the same team in which he was the IRS Team Coordinator. The crew he worked with numbered from 5 to 20 Tax Specialists  that John oversaw, included some of IRS's most well thought of tax professionals in International Law, Economics, Engineering, Employment/Excise Tax, Computer Systems and many others. , John attracted the finest in each category as these were folks who chose the top man leading the best team. These cases involved the largest and most complicated cases in the Midwest. I can tell you the tax matters he and his team grappled with were what you would expect to find with name brand corporations where the tax talent you faced off with were the most experienced and well thought of tax professionals in the business. John, a credit to his work, was well known and respected by them.
Taxpayers, you should know that your tax  interests were well protected by Mr. Pelican. I have never worked with anyone so dedicated to finding the truth and believe me finding it at this level was as challenging as it gets.  The stakes were extremely high. It was a pleasure and high honor to work with John Pelican.

Dear Edward, Joan, Joseph, Mary, and Family

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community, as well as my own.  Our hearts go out to you as you move forward on your journey of grief.  We pray for you as you continue to share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate your father, and the love you shared.

As I read the obituary for this "dedicated and loving husband…proud and loving father…beaming Papa," I was reminded of a reading adapted from the Book of Sirach.

“Let us praise an illustrious man,
	faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
he has left us his good name, and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of him….
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.”

May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge that your father lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope!

I was stunned to run across John's obituary.  John was a wonderful neighbor for 40+ years.  We lost touch with his recent move to Lutheran Home.
My fondest memory of John was from many years ago.  After a terrible ice storm coated everything with ice and snow, he crossed the street bringing his four children to help me get the driveway in working order again. Many years later I tried to repay this favor by snowblowing his driveway as he got older.  He always had a smile and positive comment.  Not too long ago he mentioned that he "had a little lady in heaven waiting for me".  I pray he and Noreen are smiling and basking in God's glory!

We remember that day 18 years ago
at Northwest Community Hospital when
your  Mom, Noreen, and my Bob were both operated on for cancer. John and  I shared many trying times with your Dad as we both were so worried about our loved ones.  Your Dad took such good care of your mom in the few months that she lingered before God called her home.
Now John has been called by God for the
best Christmas present, to be in heaven with
his beloved Noreen and with God and His Mother.  May John and Noreen now   be blessed to have been given this heavenly gift from God. Thank you John for being such a

I got to know John through golf Monday mornings at Arlington Lakes.  He was one of my all-time favorite guys to play a round with because of his wonderful sense of humor.  I only wish our paths had crossed sooner.  Condolences to the family.
