After a long battle with Parkinson's disease entered eternal life with our Lord on Tuesday May 24, 2022.Joseph H. Halka was born on October 3, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Margaret (nee Dorband) Halka.
He was a graduate of Lane Tech high school in Chicago.
Joseph worked as a printer for over 30 years.
His interests and hobbies included trains, antique autos and the accordion.
As a proud father of 3 sons he helped out coaching his kids in baseball and was a leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Later in life he volunteered at the Elgin Trolley Museum. He also enjoyed taking his grandkids to Union Train Museum. He loved teaching them about trains and taking them on train rides. Before Parkinson's took his mobility he would attend daily mass at his home parish Our Lady of the Wayside. He and his wife Lorraine took many vacation train trips across the United States and Canada.
Joseph is survived by his wife Lorraine Gorman (nee Dent); his sons Joseph (Susan) Halka, John (Linda) Halka and James (Deborah) Halka; his grandchildren Christine (Michael) Steinka, Russell Floyd, Michael (Jessica) Floyd, Lisa (fiancé John) Floyd, Brittany (Trevor) Heard, Steven Halka, Christopher Halka and Laura Jamrozik as well as his 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Halka (nee Storm), his parents as well as his sister Patricia (James) Kasovic.
Visitation Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 10:00AM until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Wayside Church 434 W. Park St., Arlington Heights, IL 60005. Interment will follow at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
