Joseph Pataky, age 94, of Arlington Heights, died peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, with his family by his side. A beloved and cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Joseph leaves a lasting legacy of devotion to family and a life marked by steady work, music, and homegrown joys.
Joseph was born on April 12, 1931, in Felsőcsatár, Hungary, to his parents Andras and Rosa Pataki and then adopted by his Aunt and Uncle, Paul and Paula Holczl. He served in the Hungarian Army in 1951 and later came to the United States in 1957 on a Red Cross Ship, settling in Chicago.
In 1957, Joseph met his wife, Maria at St. Stephen of Hungary Church. They were married on May 31, 1958, and made their home in Chicago as they raised their family. Their marriage of 66 years stood as a testament to enduring love and commitment.
In 1974, Joseph and Maria moved to Park Ridge, and in 1997 they settled in Arlington Heights. For more than 30 years, Joseph worked as an awnings and screened-in rooms installer. He was well known for reliability, skill, and pride in a job well done.
Joseph found happiness in music and in making things with his hands. He enjoyed singing and playing the harmonica, accordion, and sitar. He loved his gardens and fruit trees, especially his mini vineyard—and took great pleasure in making his wine. He also enjoyed bowling, The Chicago Blackhawks, tinkering and fixing things and, most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Pataky; his parents, Andras and Rose Pataki, Paul and Paula Holczl, brothers, Feri (Reska) Pataki, Andrew ( Helen ) Pataky, Sonji Pataki, nephew, Gabor Pataki, brothers in law, Josef and Ernie Magyar and niece, Sally Vivirito.
Joseph is survived by his children, Dorothy Pataky and Tom (Theresa) Pataky; his grandchildren, Joshua Pataky and Jessica Pataky; his sisters-in-law, Mary Magyar and Jan Magyar, Mari Pataki and many nieces and nephews and their families.
