Karen Lynn Marchese

Karen Lynn Marchese was born November 28, 1943, in Chicago to Charles and Edna Vander Heyden. She passed away December 1, 2023, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be missed by everyone who knew her. She grew up in Chicago but also lived in Virginia while her husband was stationed there in the Army. After her husband’s service, they settled in Arlington Heights, where they have resided since 1970.

She loved to dance and enjoyed going to Philadelphia to dance on American Bandstand with her girlfriends. She also loved cooking, as did everyone that ever had the chance to taste her food. She enjoyed running a little catering company with a few of her girlfriends for a while. She loved travelling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Karen was an accomplished beautician. She ran a shop at the house and did many of the women’s hair from the neighborhood. She also had several years of service at the Poppin Fresh Pie Commissary. She left Poppin Fresh Pies to work at Sky Chef at O’Hare Airport, she retired from Sky Chef in 2001, after 23 years of service.

She was the kindest, most generous woman in the world. She would be the first person that would offer to give or sacrifice anything if someone needed something. She always put her wants and needs to the back, and worried about everyone else first. Her family, children, and grandchildren meant everything to her. She worked tirelessly to maintain and run the family, and is what she was most proud of.

Karen is survived by her husband Donald Marchese; her sons Dion Marchese, Daniel (Michele) Marchese; her grandchildren Dillon, Katerina, Jake, and Breanna; her sister Charlene Hoffmann.

She is preceded in death by her sister Barbara Turner and by her parents.

Visitation Wednesday December 13, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Funeral Service 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
