

Kathryn Alice Schafer, longtime resident of Arlington Heights, passed away on March 31, 2022. Kathryn was born on June 6, 1924 to Charles and Kathryn (Marbach) Erbach in Chicago. She attended classes at the Art Institute of Chicago and developed a life-long interest in art and painting. Kathryn taught first and fourth grades at St. Alphonsus Grade School in Prospect Heights from 1960 to 1986.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Schafer for 73 years, loving mother of Robert (Patricia), Mary (the late Wayne Ettema), Kathryn (James) Costello, James (Mary), and Ann (Steve) Knipp, grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 21 and great-great-grandmother of three. Kathryn is also survived by her brothers Charles J. Erbach, Stephen V. Erbach and her sister Suzanne Pritscher. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Lou Butler, and brothers Paul and Daniel Erbach.
Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2022 from 3pm to 7pm at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home at 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Mass will be Saturday April 9 at 10:00 am at St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. The Funeral Mass will also be livestreamed via the St. James website at stjamesah.org and the livestream will begin at 9:50 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catholic Relief Services (crs.org) appreciated.
