Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Lyle Hanson was born January 23, 1923 in Chicago to Alvin and Alice (nee Benson) Hanson. He died November 28, 2017 in Northbrook.
Kenneth was a career military man, serving his country in both WWII and the Korean War. During WWII, Ken piloted B24 Bombers with the 15th Air Force in Italy with the 376 bombardment group known as the “libourandos”. In Chicago, Ken served with the 928th Air Force reserve. In his retirement years, Ken volunteered for the Air Force reserve both at O’Hare and at the Nike Base in Arlington Heights, helping other veterans understand their military benefits. He was a 1941 graduate of Lane Tech High School, where he developed his talents as a skilled handyman. Ken enjoyed being amongst nature, playing golf with friends, and surrounding himself with family. He was a mentor to young people, a consummate people person, and his quick wit, perfectly timed jokes, and warm smile endeared him to all.
Ken is survived by his wife Barbara (nee Whittier) Hanson; his children Kenneth L. Hanson Jr., Christopher (Crystal) Hanson, Susan (Terry) Fitzgerald and Martine (Jim) Jones; His 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Ken is preceded in death by his siblings Edward Hanson and Mary Jane (late Charles) Sonengren and by his parents. Visitation Monday, December 4, 2017 from 4:00 PM until time of funeral service at 7:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Interment will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday December 5, 2017 at Post Cemetery in Ft. Sheridan.
