Kenneth D Nielsen

Kenneth D. Nielsen, from Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully at home early Friday morning September 29, 2023 surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on March 18, 1936 in Chicago, IL and celebrated his 87th birthday this year. He was the son of Frederick and Florence “Sweetie” (Winge) Nielsen and is the oldest of two children.

In his early years, Ken worked as a carpenter for 11 years before pursuing sales for Fuller Brush, and later, pharmaceuticals with Syntex. After reconsidering his role in the pharmaceutical industry, he successfully navigated a career as an insurance agent. In addition to his career, Ken was an active member at Meadows Baptist Church. He was head of buildings and grounds, head usher, Sunday school superintendent, and served on the Elder Board. Ken was also an active community member, serving on the Arlington Heights school board, District 25, for 16 years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Elaine; children Keith (Mary), Jeannette, Gary (Diane), Kim (Eric) Andresen, Eric John (Becca); 13 grandchildren; his sister Gayle (John) Vosnos and their 3 children.

Visitation will be held from 11am-12pm on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church, 200 N Roselle Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60194 with service following at 12pm. Graveside committal will be held privately at Mt. Emblem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church – Caleb’s Kin Ministry.
