

LaVerne Frances Seranko, 92, of Arlington Heights, Illinois died Saturday, September 23, 2023, at her home. She was born July 12, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Frances (nee Lester) Seranko. La Verne grew up in Chicago, attended St. Angela elementary school, Siena High School and graduated from De Paul University in 1953. She lived in Oak Park until 1994 when she moved to Arlington Heights.
La Verne enjoyed a long and successful career at CNA Insurance retiring after 41 years advancing to a VP of Special Operations. LaVerne was a team player who got the job done and done well.
While not working La Verne enjoyed traveling, her favorite location being Hong Kong. Other places of interest to her included Hawaii, St. Moritz, Paris, Germany and the Mediterranean. She had many precious memories and stories to share. She learned to sail and spent many weekends sailing the Pegasus on Lake Michigan. She was an avid skier and Ice Dancer. Most importantly, LaVerne loved her family. She hosted holidays and birthdays. She was a talented chef and amazed many guests with her flaming desserts. Her home was filled with photos of nieces & nephews that reflected the many enjoyable times spent in her home.
In her retired life LaVerne was active in her parish, St. Edna. She also enjoyed the activities and companionship offered by the Arlington Senior Center. She was an active Bridge and Mah Jongg player. She was teaching others to enjoy the game until the week before her passing.
LaVerne is survived by her brothers, Raymond and William Seranko; her nieces and nephews, Tom (Julie) Seranko, Donna Seranko, Sharon (John) Conley, Anita (Fred) Von Canon, and Peter (Kate) Seranko; and her great nieces and great nephews, Kelly (Zach) Kaufman, Emily (Tom) Plagge, Megan Seranko, Bradley and Paul Benes, John, Matthew, Sarah, Mary Grace, Daniel, and Samuel Conley, Anthony (Arlette), Stanton (Jessie), Leslie, Maggie, and Morgan Von Canon, and Mary Frances Seranko.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Peter Seranko; her great niece, Annie; and her sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Lucia.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Committal of cremated remains is private.
