Linda C Millard ( Johnson) of North Barrington was born in 1940 in Chicago, IL to Daisy Skog and Marvin Johnson. Her grandparents immigrated from Sweden and she was especially proud of her Swedish heritage. She grew up with her 2 brothers Wayne and Steve and had a wonderful childhood settling in Andersonville in Chicago.
She attended Amundsen High School and was a baton twirler there. Later, her family moved to Prospect Heights. She then attended University of Illinois studying elementary education until she was offered the dream job of a lifetime working for United Airlines in their passenger services helping people get to their flights. This job gave her the opportunity to meet many people and travel the vast world visiting many different counties mostly on a whim costing virtually a dime. She loved to tell everyone stories of all her travel adventures.
Linda married Richard Millard in October of 1968 in Florida and was married for 54 years. She became a wonderful mother to her two children Stephanie (Brian) born in 1969 and Rick( Diane) in 1970 and had 2 cherished grandsons, Brett and Brad. The love she gave as a mother was unsurpassed.
After working for many years part time, she became an active member of the Palatine Women’s Club making charity work her passion in life. Her dedicated service consisted in helping to raise monies by an annual auction for several different organizations such as One Step at a Time , a summer camp for children battling cancer, and Special Olympics along with many more. She also dedicated her time as a volunteer to help others, especially enjoying her time with seniors at the nursing facilities. Her family meant everything to her. She cherished moments with her grandsons Brett and Brad. You could always find her cheering them on at any event of theirs especially sporting events whether it was on the baseball or football field. She loved being a grandma immensely and bragged quite often to whom ever would listen. She also loved spending time with her friends either golfing, bowling, playing bridge or just having lunch. She was a talented decorator with a creative eye making an inviting home for all to enjoy with her love of flowers being evident. Linda and Richard enjoyed visiting their second home in Galena, IL where they spent many weekends with family and friends. She was a supportive, caring and gentle woman who was so kind and friendly to all. She was referred to as a true sweetheart who would help anyone in need.
