Marcella K. Peterson, of Prospect Heights, cherished wife of Daniel F. Peterson, was born in 1941 in Evanston IL to Melvin and Marcella (nee Garrity) Schulze. Known to many as Marcy, “Mom” to her four children (“Momma P” to so many of her kids’ friends) and “Grandma” to her nine grandchildren, she passed away peacefully in the company of her family while in hospice care on March 25, 2023.
Marcy and Dan were married for over sixty two years. Marcy loved her family. She was a devout Catholic. Marcy and Dan enrolled their four children in St. Alphonsus Catholic School for K-8 education. Prayers and kisses were shared at bedtime every night when the kids were young.
Together with their family, Marcy and Dan shared so many Holidays, Birthdays, Sunday afternoon family get togethers, basketball/football/soccer/softball games (of both their kids and grandkids) and weekends at “The Lake”. Christmas Eve at the Peterson’s was a tradition that everyone looked forward to and that Marcy and Dan went all-out preparing for with a beautifully decorated home and delicious spread of festive foods and spirits.
Although Marcy was an avid air traveler during her tenure working in Reservations at Eastern Airlines, when traveling together Dan and Marcy drove……and drove…..and drove. On one memorable (aka LONG) trip from Prospect Heights to Colorado, the adventurous couple’s route took them to Colorado via Glacier National Park.
Marcy was always a lively presence. She had the gift of being able to engage in conversation with most everyone that she encountered. She loved a party for any reason and was a huge Elvis fan. Her red-headed spunk, sparkling eyes and loving spirit will stay with us all forever.
Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnny, her beloved sister and best friend Carol Mays, her great-nephew Dexter Mays, her beloved grandson Casey Peterson and her cousin and dear friend Margaret Mary Orth.
Marcy is survived by her husband Daniel F. Peterson; her children Maureen (Peter) Hylander, Daniel J. (Jolyn) Peterson, Steven (Debbie) Peterson and Michael (Cris) Peterson; her grandchildren Carson, Josh, Thomas, Jessica, Jeremy, Jacob, Jenna and Stephanie Peterson, Dominic and Sofia; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Visitation will be held Friday May 19, 2023 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church 411 North Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. Private interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
