

Margaret "Peg" BensonOf Arlington HeightsMargaret "Peg" Benson was born on August 31, 1920 in Brookfield to Walter Wade and Alpha Nelson. She died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Lutheran Home Services in Arlington Heights.An extraordinary seamstress and expert at braiding heirloom woolen rugs, Peg taught many friends and acquaintances how to braid. She was a long time, active member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a true animal lover. Peg loved to garden and was an accomplished decorator; her home was a great source of pride. She celebrated her Norwegian and Irish heritage, was a charter member of the Sons of Norway Skjold Lodge in Arlington Heights and was active in the Scandinavian Club in Palatine, where she and her husband, Roy, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For nearly 20 years, she taught at the Clearbrook School in Rolling Meadows, where she helped to develop the sheltered workshop for adult clients.Margaret is survived by her children, Tom Benson (Merrily Lockwood), Merrilee Benson Lytle, and Sally Benson; her grandchildren, Mark (Anne) Lundblad, Kristin (Billy) Candler, Erik (Amanda) Brandstetter, and Emily Lytle; and her great grandchildren, Emma Sidoli, Moira Brandstetter, and Connor Brandstetter.She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Benson; and her daughter, Bonnie Lundblad.A memorial service will be held, Friday, July 11, 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid, Arlington Heights. Interment private.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
