

Margaret M. SchlickmanOf Arlington HeightsLongtime resident of Arlington Heights, a dedicated and passionate member of the community, Margaret M. Schlickman died Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Addolorata Villa retirement community in Wheeling. Mrs. Schlickman was born on September 8, 1929 in Rockford, Illinois to John and Lucy (nee Pennig) Muraski. She was 86 years old.Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Mrs. Schlickman was devoted to her home, children, and her husband"s political career. In1978 Mrs. Schlickman started her congressional career on the staff of US Senator Chuck Percy of Illinois. In 1981 she joined the staff of US Congressman John Porter of Illinois. She retired from that office in 1991 as the Director of Constituent Services. Mrs. Schlickman dedicated her political and civic life to the betterment of her community. She advocated for such causes as affordable housing and services to the homeless. She was a member and Chair of the Arlington Heights Housing Commission from 1979-2006 and she was Chair of Wheeling Township Human Services Committee from 1989-1991. In addition to her lifelong love of politics and civic advocacy, Mrs. Schlickman enjoyed antiquing, including membership in the Questers, and as a traveler.Margaret is survived by her children Andrew (Sandra) Schlickman, Stephen (Alison) Schlickman, Mary (Edward) Rogozinski, and Monica (William) Oliver; her grandchildren, Hilary (Paul) Briant, Patrick Schlickman, Eric (Katherine) Schlickman, Emily (Mason Earles) Schlickman, Christine (Greg Hammond) Schlickman, Brianna Rogozinski; her great grandchildren, Henry Schlickman, Madeleine Briant, Grayson Schlickman, Charlotte Briant, and Felicity Schlickman.She was preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Muraski, her brothers, Walter (the late Ruth) Muraski, Thomas (the late Caroline) Muraski, John "Jack" (the late Katherine) Muraski, and Richard (Beattie) Muraski.Visitation from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights, and Friday from 8:30 am until time of prayers at 9:15 am. Funeral Mass 10:00 am, Friday, July 8 at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
