Mario Luis Lopez

Mario Lopez, age 88, passed away on July 11, 2022, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

He was born on May 31, 1934, in San Felipe, Chile to Luz (nee Mendoza) and Ismael Lopez. He married Herminia Sepulveda on September 18, 1955, in Santiago, Chile.

Mario is survived by his children Rod Lopez and Sandy Lopez; his grandson Marco Lopez; his brother-in-law Fernando (Helena) Rubio, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Herminia; his parents Luz and Ismael; his siblings Ruth Ester Rubio, Hugo (the late Hilda) Lopez, Carlos (the late Maruja) Lopez; and his brother-in-law Guillermo (the late Lucy) Sepulveda.

Mario worked as a professor of Spanish at Oakton Community College for 29 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a published novelist and poet, and a member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language.

Visitation will be from Noon until 3:00 pm Sunday, 17 July 2022 with a Remembrance Service at 1:00 pm at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment is private.
