

Marion was a devoted daughter to Harold Albert Anderson and Mildred Caroline Carlson, and sister to Norman Alan Anderson.
She was a loving wife to John D. Peat, a fellow world traveler and WWII Army Air Force pilot.
Proud of her Swedish heritage, her paternal grandparents, John Albert Anderson and Alfreda Josefina Larson, emigrated from Sweden and settled in Greenview, Illinois, Springfield, Illinois, and then lived in Lanyon, Iowa. Her maternal grandparents, John Carlson and Marie Nelson, emigrated from Sweden and settled in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
A faithful Christian, Marion was a youth member of the Trinity Mission Covenant Church and then an adult member of the United Methodist Church in Illinois and Wisconsin/Michigan.
She was a loyal friend to many fortunate people in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, and around the world.
Marion was a lifelong learner, having graduated from the University of Chicago Laboratory School (HSD), North Park College (AD), Augustana College (BA), University of Colorado (MA), and New York University (MA). She continued her pursuit of knowledge throughout her adult life in the United States as well as overseas, belonging to study groups and book clubs in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
An honored teacher, Marion taught at Malta High School for 3 years and Barrington High School for 30 years. She specialized in Social Studies, History, Global Studies, African Studies, and Asian Studies, serving in many leadership roles, locally and nationally, including president of the Illinois Council for Social Studies. Marion received numerous awards and accolades from staff and students during her tenure.
She was also a world traveler, having visited Africa, India, China, Pakistan, Thailand, Japan, and most of the countries in Europe and the Middle East.
Marion lived 87 adventuresome years, and her strong, independent, and friendly nature will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family.
A memorial service to honor Marion will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in The Moorings Chapel, 811 E. Central Road, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
An additional memorial service in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin is being planned for Summer 2026.
