Marion Roos Ibbotson, 92, passed away on Thursday, March 30th in Algonquin, Illinois. Born on June 20, 1930, in Maywood, Illinois, Marion was the daughter of the late Aage Edward and Lily Roos, who immigrated from Denmark.
Marion was a brilliant student who skipped a grade and advanced a year in elementary school. She graduated with honors from Austin High School and went on to attend Northwestern University, where she was a proud member of Phi Gamma Nu sorority. Marion's musical talent shone through as she appeared as a soloist in numerous varsity night and potpourri musical productions on campus and around Chicago.
After graduation, Marion worked as a private secretary at Montgomery Ward corporate headquarters in Chicago. On July 7, 1951, she married Arthur 'Reg' Ibbotson while he was serving in the Air Force during the Korean conflict.
Marion and Reg moved to Elk Grove Village in 1961, where they raised their three children. Marion was an active member of the community, participating in school activities at Clearmont Elementary School and Grove Junior High School. She was a Cub Scout leader, along with her husband, at Clearmont School and supported many charities.
Following Reg's passing in 2013, Marion moved to Sleepy Hollow, Illinois with her daughter Kristie and family. Marion enjoyed all of life's experiences, big or small. She had many interests, including spending time at their summer place, camping, traveling (especially cruises), gardening, following sports and politics, the arts of all types, and a life-long love of reading and learning. But most important to her was the love she had for her family.
Marion was a loving mother to Pamela Ibbotson (Maureen Houlihan), Craig (Cynthia) Ibbotson, and Kristie (Michael) Brettman; cherished grandmother to Patrick Ibbotson, Carrie Ibbotson, Kelly (Andrew) Cannella, Aimee Ibbotson, William (Rachel) Brettman, Emilie (Tylor) Straube and the late Thomas Brettman; and dear great-grandmother to Parker (Brettman), London (Brettman), Lincoln (Kearley), Phinehas (Cannella), and Levi (Cannella).
In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by an infant sister, cherished grandson Thomas Brettman, her brother Erik Roos, and beloved husband of 61 years, Arthur Reginald Ibbotson. Marion will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
