Most recently of Mount Prospect, IL and formerly a long time resident of Oak Park, IL.
Mary V. Culhane was born on March 27, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Michael and Della (nee Dillane) Culhane. She died Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Amita Alexian Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
Mary was, in many ways, a trail blazer for women in the workplace. She spent almost her entire career working for Cardwell Westinghouse at their offices on South Michigan Ave. In the evenings she attended Loyola University, proudly obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1973. Mary started her career as what we now refer to as an Administrative Assistant but, thanks to her tireless efforts, she worked her way up to eventually serve as her company’s Secretary & Assistant Treasurer, supervising a small team of professionals. Her work ethic was simply unmatched.
Although her career was very important, Mary put family first, and was loving and generous to a fault. She dearly loved both of her brothers and was always responsive when they or one or her many nephews or niece needed help. Her family will always fondly remember Christmas at Marshall Fields, ice cream at Andes Carriage, sleep overs in Oak Park and her delight at having family get togethers in her home.
Mary was a devout catholic and after her retirement attended daily morning mass at St. Alphonsus in Prospect Heights. She touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Mary is survived by her nieces and nephews Myles (Leslie) Culhane, Gerald M. (Melissa) Culhane, Steve (Marci) Culhane, Carolyn Culhane and James (Molly) Culhane, as well as her sister-in-law Genny Culhane.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers Gerald Thomas Culhane and Patrick Joseph (late Marilee) Culhane.
Private graveside services were held at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL
