Mary Bonita Opon was born December 30, 1939, in Chicago to Harvey and Helen (nee Lammers) Knudsen. She died Thursday, September 23, 2021, in Arlington Heights.

Mrs. Opon worked as a claim’s supervisor for Prestige Causality Company in Skokie and Cornet Insurance Company of Chicago. Mary was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights where she served as an eucharistic minister and greeter for 17 years. She also was a member of the Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherds in Glenview. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was loved by all.

Mary is survived by her husband of (40 years), Norbert; children, Mary “Susan” (Bruce) Wolski, Judith (the late Terry) Hopkins, Laura (Jimmy) Walker; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Estep, Christina Wolski, Samantha Wolski, Margaret “Maggie” Salehzadeh, Matthew Salehzadeh, Michael Salehzadeh and Angel Walker; siblings, Dorothy Ayres, Ruth Knudsen and Sandra (the late David) Kusturins; sister-in-law, Shirley Knudsen; brother-in-law, Theodore Sorensen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded into death by her parents; her siblings, Lucille (Gil) Johnsen, Margaret Sorensen and Frank Knudsen.

Visitation Monday, September 27, 2021, 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers 9:15 am, Tuesday. September 28, 2021 at the funeral home proceeding to St. James Catholic Church, 831 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004 for a 10:00 am Mass. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
