Mary Margaret Stryker, of Arlington Heights, passed away on Friday, June 19th, 2020, at the age of 80. Mary was born on September 28, 1939, in Chicago Illinois, to parents John and Nellie (nee McGowan) Gavin. Mary grew up on the South Side with her two brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Maria High School she went on to attend DePaul University where she met her Husband John Stryker. They married shortly after Mary graduated and spent the first few years of their marriage living on military bases while John served as an officer in the Army (two tours Vietnam). After John left active duty in the Army the family settled in Hanover Park where they raised their six children.
Mary was a devout Catholic who believed in the power of prayer and loved her family. Mary especially enjoyed taking long rides in the country and eating out with her family. She enjoyed just being with her family and talking about anything from the weather to the shenanigans that took place at the family home.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary (Joe) Aiello, John (the late Beth) Stryker, Michelle (Antenor S.) Molloy, Steven Stryker, Patricia (Joel) Johnston and Kathryn (Aaron LaRocco) Stryker; grandchildren, Shelby (Charles Beauregard) Stryker, Anne Aiello, Lauren Aiello, John Molloy, Steven Stryker II, Dominic Aiello, Antenor T. Molloy, Kenneth Stryker, Kira Johnston, Joseph Johnston and Sarah Stryker; great-grandchildren, William Beauragard and Violet Beauregard; sister, Helen (the late Jerome) Evertowski; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Stryker; and her parents John and Nellie Gavin: and her brothers John Gavin and James Gavin and her sister Patricia Gavin.
Visitation from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Funeral Mass Monday, June 29, 2020 at St. James Catholic Church (also with capacity limits and PPE, and social distancing), 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
