Nabil E. Hanna, 80, of Mount Prospect, Illinois passed away on February 1st, 2022. He was born on May 1st, 1941 in Maghagha, Egypt. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Minia in Egypt, graduated in 1964 and began his professional career working as a senior mechanical engineer at the Cairo Transit Authority. During the course of his undergraduate studies he spent 18 months training with two engineering firms in Germany and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, spending time in Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy. In May of 1970 he immigrated to the United States, living first in Michigan with his sister and brother-in-law before finally settling in Chicago. He joined the engineering firm Sargent & Lundy in 1973 and worked there for many years on the design and engineering of nuclear generating stations.
Nabil is survived by his wife, Karin Kaiden, as well as his daughter Sara (Jay) Patel and his son Dr. Michael (Dr. Akanksha) Hanna. He was the loving grandfather of five: Amira, James, Kaveh, Dhilan and Shane. Nabil was also beloved by a large extended family, including: Sally & the late Wahib Ebeid and their children Nayer Ebeid, Nadi (Christine) Ebeid, and Dr. Ebeid (Dr. Karen) Ebeid; Dr. Nadia & the late Dr. Roushdy Boulos and their children Nader (Sarah) Boulos and Mona (Mark) Shand; the late Dr. Nabila & the late Dr. Helmy Bacheet and their children Dr. Nivine (Matthew) Woods, Dr. Ayman (Sara) Bacheet, and Dr. Ashraf (Josephine) Bacheet; Dr. Nawal Hanna & the late Dr. Magdy Aziz and their children Aziz, Sylvia (Remon) Shaker, Sara (Dr. Mina) Aziz, and Iren (Dr. Sabry) Mansour; Dr. Nemr & the late Dianne Hanna and their children Mark (Cathy) Hanna, Mina Hanna, and Noelle Hanna; Noshy & Wafaa Hanna and their children Amira (Matthew) Megally and Mina Hanna; and Nashat (Hanaa) Hanna and their children Michael (Merna) Hanna and Marina (Matthew) Kaminski.
Nabil was preceded in death by his loving parents Ebeid & Leza Hanna.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 5th from 9:00 to 11:15 AM at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights, IL, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 Noon at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church at 3839 W. Frontage Road in Palatine. Interment All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
